Making MOMENtS

Nothing can be taken for granted in wildlife photography. Every moment with wildlife can be so fleeting, it can be a matter of minutes or seconds within which a shot can be taken or missed. Whenever I am in the presence of an animal, I feel gratitude for being allowed a glimpse into his world, enough to capture a moment in his life.

ABOUT VRINDA

Spending time in nature and in the presence of animals, and if I’m lucky enough, to witness moments in their lives by being completely immersed in their world, is most rewarding and joyous an experience for me, and is perhaps the reason I am a wildlife photographer.

As a photographer, my effort and aim is always to showcase the splendour and aura that surrounds wildlife, as well as the intimate connection animals share with nature.

The essence of my photography is also to convey the critical fact that we humans are just one species that call this planet Home. The Earth belongs as much to us, as it does to the sentient beings in the images. Through each of my photographs, I hope to forge this imperative emotional connect between viewer and wildlife.

In my photographic journey so far, Africa has been the setting in my imagery. It is one of those places on Earth where primordial nature is at its finest - the stunning landscapes and the animals that inhabit the land are at once captivating and exhilarating, and evoke a sense of humility in the midst of nature.

I enjoy the black and white medium of photography. I feel the absence of colour renders a timeless quality to the scene and moment captured, while also portraying animals in their purest and truest essence.

This is not to say that I do not go about chasing, or conversely, waiting for exquisite natural light for my subjects. That is where the magic lies.

I would like to share that I only photograph animals that are wild and in their natural habitat, doing so in a way that causes no disturbance to their innate behaviour or to the sanctity of the environment they call home.

Artist Statement

Thoughts, views, reasons and resolutions for wildlife, our planet and the beauty of photography.

I use a number of hashtags within my social content, not to gain traction but to state a point that means a lot personally. This is my artist statement.

#MORETHANABOX

This takes us to a space wherein a photograph is not constricted by the parameters of an Instagram box.

Viewing an image outside of these fixed dimensions enables the viewer to form a stronger connect with the image, thereby drawing a deeper meaning out of the story or message the image intends to convey.

An image viewed in a larger frame, on a larger screen, speaks much more than an image restricted within a box.

This brings us to #morethanabox - encouraging everyone to view photographs on a larger screen, in a larger frame, whenever and wherever possible.

#NOTJUSTAMEMORY

In today’s world, wildlife across the globe faces a certain degree of threat of extinction. At the hands of humans, who have caused immense harm to delicate ecosystems, animals now face a dire situation, some much more than others, living in very precarious states.

By continuing to showcase the glory and grandeur of wildlife, the environment they call home, and their real lives in the wild, we try to forge an emotional connect between viewer and these sentient beings, with the hope that this may evoke empathy and an understanding of the dangers they face in their very existence today.

We try to bring to the fore the fact that even though in some cases we may now be too late, there is still a lot left to salvage so that we can continue to witness with our own eyes, to this present moment, the beauty that is this Wildlife on Earth, and not just through stories from the past.

This brings us to #notjustamemory - we would like to keep our wildlife from becoming mere memories.
